Lecture: Industrial Microelectronics

This lecture, read in the summer semester, covers the structure and economic network of the semiconductor industry, as well as the basic business models. The lecture focuses on the economic aspects, but always consider the relationship to the development of integrated circuits. The industrial processes and working methods of the semiconductor industry will be presented, as well as the introduction to the management of industrial development projects according to economic criteria.

  1. The importance of microelectronics for industry and economy
  2. Technology basics, material flow and important players
  3. Design of integrated circuits from an industrial point of view (planning, tools, IP)
  4. Project management for IC development (development cycles, V-model, project management)

5. Value chain of semiconductor industry (material, analytics, packaging, tests)
6. Marketing (market segments, P&L, go-to-market strategies, product life cycle, quality management)
7. Industry mechanisms (standards, legal framework, business practices, associations, industry policy)

Exam

Examination: Oral, duration 15 min, no documents allowed. An official photo ID and a student ID must be presented at the oral exam. Examination dates by arrangement.
